Housecalls for Pets has been serving the greater Washington DC metropolitan area since 1993. Dr. Solomon Perl provides quality affordable health care for cats and dogs in the comfort of their homes.

Here’s how it works:

You call 301-774-5656. If Dr. Perl is in transit he will answer the phone and you will speak directly to him. If he is with a patient then you will leave him a message with your phone number spoken loud and clear and he will call you back at his first available moment.

Dr. Perl will do his best to schedule the appointment at your convenience during regular business hours.  After hours calls are available for established clients with sick animals. Dr. Perl is not an after hours/emergency provider but he does his best to accommodate special circumstances.

Dr. Perl will arrive as close as possible to the scheduled appointment time.  Often traffic and extended time spent with previous clients make this hard to predict.

Services available on a house call

Well visits – exams, vaccinations, laboratory diagnostics including Feline Leukemia, Feline AIDS and Heartworm testing, flea prevention and treatment, microchips and health certificates.

Preventive medicines – Dr. Perl distributes all necessary pharmaceutical products to keep your pet healthy  – at or less than the current online prices. If you run out before your next visit just fill out the form on the Contact Us page of this website and he will get the item to you.

Dentals – Dr. Perl does not oversell. If you need it he will suggest it. If you don’t need it he will tell you that as well. He can scale teeth (often without sedation) and can extract or attend to an abscess.

Sick visits – Anything that can be addressed during an outpatient basis at a vet hospital can be done in the comfort of your pet’s home.  Some of the conditions Dr. Perl can diagnose, manage and treat include allergies, arthritis, dehydration, diabetes, ear infections, eye infections, eye irritations and injuries, heart disease, kennel cough, kidney failure, litter box problems, obesity, pain control, parasites, pet hospice, skin infections, thyroid problems, upper respiratory infections, urinary tract infections. He can assess tumors and cysts and perform skin biopsies.

Behavioral issues – Dr. Perl has heard it all before!  He is an expert at talking you through any personality conflicts in your house. Appropriate meds prescribed as needed, of course.

Euthanasia – This is a difficult time for everyone.  Dr. Perl has received countless Thank You notes from pet owners whose pets he has helped during this stressful process.  Please see the additional page regarding these services.

Dr. Perl has hospital privileges where he can care for your pet in a state of the art facility with the help of experienced technicians.

Spays and neuters – Dr. Perl will pick up and deliver your pet back home in the same day. Animals do better when they recover in the loving hands of their families.  No need to incur the extra expense or the extra stress of hospitalizing an animal overnight.

Surgical procedures – Dr. Perl can perform a variety of surgical procedures such as tumor removal, cherry eye, and bladder stones to name a few.  For specific orthopedic surgeries or other procedures that he is not comfortable with Dr. Perl will refer you to the appropriate specialist.
